This by-invitation-only group helps support the School and its ninth President, Dr. James Gandre.

The President’s Circle is a by-invitation-only group of committed and dedicated individuals who help to support the School and its ninth President, Dr. James Gandre, in carrying out MSM’s mission, strategic plan, and special initiatives.

MSM is committed to nurturing and developing the next generation of performing artists, but providing the specialized, in-depth training our students require is costly and is only possible with the support of generous donors.

President, Manhattan School of Music

ABOUT MANHATTAN SCHOOL OF MUSIC

One of the foremost music conservatories in the world, Manhattan School of Music (MSM) is deeply committed to excellence in education, performance, and creative activity; to the humanity of the School’s environment; to preparing all our students to find their success; and to the cultural enrichment of the larger community. MSM inspires and empowers highly talented individuals to realize their potential. We take full advantage of New York City’s abundant learning and performance opportunities, preparing our students to be accomplished and passionate performers, composers and teachers, and imaginative, effective contributors to the arts and society.

Now in its second century, the School provides an exemplary professional music education in an environment that nurtures and challenges aspiring young artists.  Home to more than 960 college and graduate students from 55 countries and nearly every U.S. state, with another 475 in a highly regarded Precollege division, MSM is a thriving international community. The School’s dedicated faculty members are teaching-artists of exceptional caliber, including members of New York’s celebrated performing institutions—the New York Philharmonic, The Metropolitan Opera, and Jazz at Lincoln Center, among them—as well as Broadway artists, award-winning jazz musicians, leading soloists, and eminent chamber musicians.

MSM is also a vibrant cultural resource, especially for our neighboring Harlem and Morningside Heights communities. In nine performance spaces on campus, including the state-of-the-art, 625-seat Neidorff-Karpati Hall, our main performance space, which recently reopened after a $16.5 million renovation, we present nearly 800 annual concerts and performances each year. Classical, jazz, and musical theatre works are brought to thrilling life by our talented students, distinguished faculty, and guest artists.  Many musical events at MSM are livestreamed to enthusiastic audiences across the globe.

The success of our alumni speaks to the high quality music education the School provides. They are  soloists on the stages of the great concert halls and opera houses of the world, play in major orchestras internationally, lead important music organizations, and are faculty members training the next generation of artists.  Through their artistry and mentoring, thousands of MSM alumni have impacted the lives of countless musicians around the world.
